Travelling: Borobudur Temple, Indonesia

Hello, everyone. This is going to be my last post for this semester. Thank you to all of you who came to visited. My today's topic is about Indonesian Arts, I'm just picked the archaeological attraction that I studied from last lesson. Today, we are going to talk about Borobudur Temple.

Borobudur Temple is located in the central part of Java, about 40 kilometers northwest of Yogyakarta. There was built between the years 1293 - 1393 as a place of worship of Mahayana Buddhism. In 1991, UNESCO declared Borobudur a World Heritage Site. It is an architecture influenced by Mahayana Buddhism with the ancient and faith of the Javanese people in the history of the Shailendra reign.

Borobudur is made of andesite stone, which is a huge volcanic rock, approximately 15 meters high, outside is a lotus shape, which symbolizes Buddhism. As evidenced by history, the Borobudur Buddhist Temple is a lowland surrounded by flooded waters from the Progo River. It can be compared that Borobudur ancient pagoda is like a lotus floating in water.

History of Arts: Mixed of Hindu & Javanese

In 732 AD, the Java King of the San Chai Dynasty, which worshiped Hinduism from India at that time and the Sai Lentara dynasty is a Mahayana Buddhist. They were built many churches, viharns and chedis. The greatest is the Borobudur Pagoda, which King Vishnu of the Shailendra dynasty, his majesty began to be built in 775 AD until it was completed in the reign of King Intra in 847 AD and took about 70 years to complete.

Central Java Art Reflecting the harmonious blend of Indian and Indonesian arts. There is a stupa on the stepped pyramid, which is 42 meters above the base. There are 10 floors in total, each of which has Buddhist morality with the attitude of  the universe. According to Buddhism and the entry into nirvana on six layers from the base as a recessive rectangle like a ladder pyramid. The seventh floor is a large circular base, three more floors, decorated with a transparent bell-shaped pagoda in the shape of a four-ring diamond cover the small Buddha image inside it.

Borobudur is like the center of the universe, it can be divided into 3 layers:

The first part is that Kamadhatu is the stage in which human beings remain closely connected with the happiness of the world and was overwhelmed by craving. The base of the stupa is four large steps, all around is a rectangle, the walls around the base have low reliefs.

The second part is the Rupadhatu, the upper part of the base with six circular steps with a low-relief plaque. It is the stage where humanity is freed from desires.

The third part is the Arupadhatu, which is the stage that humans are no longer bound to the world. The round base part with a small three-story pagoda surrounding the largest stupa represents the universe.

This is not a goodbye...

Well...I can't explain thing that much or it could be boring, so I'll gave you only a point of view. I don't have much time to study for the final exams and I need to clear all my project before final weeks will come soon. I hope these information will help you more or less. Again, thank you so much for sight-see my blog. I know I have nothing much and honestly, I didn't want to do it, like at all, it's not what I like or good at it, you see I'm just do to complete my lesson. It was sad when you need to write about travelling things while you didn't really go to anywhere. I wish I could do better than this and of course if I able to visit all the places I wrote through out this semester. (EXCEPT the Cambodia trip, that one I really went there.) See you again next trip, BYE ;)
